Over a seven week docking period in Santander, Spain we replaced virtually every automatic control and monitoring system on United European Car Carriers (UECC) vessel “MV Autotansporter”.
In order to complete this project successfully within the time scale allowed, many months of careful preparation and planning were necessary during which we produced detailed installation and adaptation drawings and carried out numerous vessel surveys.
his high level of detail was necessary to enable the new equipment to integrate tightly with the retained equipment whilst minimizing installation time.
By careful planning it was possible to re-use much of the existing field wiring resulting in significant cost and time savings.
All of the documentation was submitted and approved by class (Lloyd’s Register of Shipping).
The work scope included removal of the existing alarm & monitoring system, main engine & propellor pitch control system and switchboard control/power management system.
These were all replaced with the latest marine approved Windows 2000 ™ /PC based distributed fieldbus system with multiple operator workstations. Most of the existing consoles were heavily modified both externally and internally and some were replaced completely i.e. Bridge Wing Control Stands.
The installation went very smoothly and finished with a relatively straightforward and short commissioning period after which the vessel resumed normal service.
